Here are my predictions for 2019–2025. This article was first written 06.03.2019.

1-) Rise of True Private Clouds

Reading through Gartner’s Quadrant for Cloud Management Platform published 7 January there is an obvious focus on Hybrid Cloud Management. The Leaders in this category Flexara, Scalr ,Embotics as well as Morpheus all provide users the ability to build their infrastructure on multiple clouds. Now what I personally predict is actually not the usage of multiple cloud providers but the extension of the cloud to client private datacenters.

A second prediction goes for the “datacenter” concept. I do not see any datacenters being built by the clients for cost reasons. Instead, I can see led by AWS other cloud providers will start giving dedicated, private and separate infrastructure to their clients with all the management capabilities of the cloud on top such as AWS Console, Athena, Quicksight, Aurora, Cloudwatch.

While we will talk about dedicated instances we will actually talk about FAAS (Lambda) while we use serverless databases and use DAAF (Database as a Function) — I have just checked this term. By the time I wrote this, it does not seem to be used anywhere before.

2-) Amazon will become the largest online bank

Although not seen to most of us, who are focussed on the technical advancements that Amazon offers via AWS, Amazon itself has a great advantage over traditional banks:

Earned Client Trust: Amazon since day one has focused on client obsession vs competitors, making them the most customer-focused company ever. From the days where clients had doubts ever using their credit online now, customers are able to do even their daily shopping without any doubts. Having a quick, no-questions-asked return policy for me is the most important part that helped change customer behaviour

Know-how + Analytics: Amazon is processing huge amount of data over clients. From the clicks they had until the behaviors and the purchases they made giving them the bigger opportunity to find out what customers “will need” using ML algorithms. A couple of statistics here:

  • Amazon now dominates the product search over Google. Amazon increasing 46% to 54% and Google declining from 54% to 46% in 2018.
  • 64% of households subscribe to Amazon Prime
  • 72% of all Amazon users spend between $100 and $500 annually on the site.
  • 26 million consumers are regular Prime Video watchers.
  • Over 100 million users use Amazon Prime globally.

All these data not only limited to computers but also supported by the devices that we use such as mobile phones, Alexa devices, and tablets.

With a Net Promoter Score of 47 just after 79 of USAA, I am sure we will be seeing Amazon becoming the largest online bank in the incoming years.

3-) Internet of Things will penetrate into all household products and rural areas. These devices will work with integrated Machine learning algorithms.

YTD there are 26.66B active IoT devices

Every second 127 IoT Devices are added to Internet

Global Market of IoT is expected to grow up to 457B in 2020

We knew about IoT and we know the origins were 1832 Electromagnetic telegraph in Russia, Nikola Tesla describing and then DARPA in 1962. The first example was a Coca Cola machine in Carnegie Melon University in 1980’s where programmers would connect to check if there were any drinks available but the official naming didn’t appear until around 1999.

As in any other technology piece. We have seen first iterations of IoT in 1999, 2003–2004 made itself to the media, 2008–2009 Internet of Things concept was born:

Looking into future now It is really not hard to see the 2 biggest inventions will cross roads . Machine learning, Artificial intelligence backed by Deep Learning is growing and now we are able to see the usage and the application of ML/AI in software, in services and we are even seeing these replacing real human labor which is predicted by Garner as “By 2023, 40% of I&O teams will use AI-augmented automation in large enterprises, resulting in higher IT productivity”

Now taking all these statistics into consideration I am expecting to see the usage of ML / AI embedded into IOT devices continuously getting information about habits, use cases, statistics on how we live and providing automated activation / deactivation of devices, automatising the agriculture (ie. plan tomato seeds in early April when the soil temperature arrives at 16C or water the plants when the humidity of the soil is around certain %)

We will see more and more of IoT Devices. We can predict 2021 we will be seeing general usage / application of ML — AI and IoT and by 2023–2025 we will consider this technology as “normal” as we have done with voice enable devices.
